Welcome to Clinical and Developmental Psychological Services

This service is run by Dr.  Olive Kellaghan O'Reilly; an experienced clinical psychologist having worked in both health and education sectors for 15 years. Having begun her working career in primary education, she moved into specialist  education and then the field of psychology completing a first class degree in psychology and subsequently a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Limerick.  Dr. Olive is a chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland. She now works with individuals from childhood to adulthood in her private practice conducting assessment and consultation services. She aims to help optimise individual understanding and development through her clinical practice.

At Clinical and Developmental Psychological Services, Dr. Olive Kellaghan O'Reilly is committed to providing both:

  • Psychological  consultations
  • Comprehensive psychological assessments

 

 

Psychological Consultations:

These can be held via phone consultation, on-line or in person to discuss specific queries or concerns. Many referral agents benefit from an initial consultation especially if they are unsure which type of assessment, service or professional(s) may be required to meet their needs. 

Comprehensive Psychological Assessments:

Dr. Olive specialises in queries in relation to the following aspects of learning & development:

  • Cognitive Development
  • Day to day functioning skills/ adaptive behaviour profiling
  • Dyslexia/ Specific Literacy Difficulties
  • Dyscalculia/ Specific Mathematics Difficullties
  • Attention Difficulties eg Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder

The above assessments can be completed for children, adolescents and adults. Bookings can be made following an initial consultation or e-mail query. 

All assessments and diagnoses comply with the Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders : DSM-5 -Tr. 5th ed. Washington, D.C.: American Psychiatric Association

Please note Dr. Olive  does not currently provide assessments for queries in relation to autism. This assessment is best done within and interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team. 

Services

Dr. Olive offers specialised psychological services tailored to meet individual needs. Her approach is developmentally focused on understanding each  individual's strengths and needs. Throughout  the assessment process she explores practical and contextual  solutions to support day to day optimisation unique to the individual .

 Consultations 

 

An initial 30 minute consultation is recommended if you require any  clarification as to which assessment is best for you or the person that you are caring for. This consultation can help ensure that you get the best possible service for you. 

 

Longer stand alone consultations can also be helpful for accessing some inital advice or signposting services/supports regarding your specific query. These can be arranged remotely or in person. 

 

Comprehensive Assessments

Comprehensive assessments are conducted to identify strengths and needs, with a view to aiding the individuals understanding and progression.

This assessment typically involves:

  • Completion of a referral and consent form
  • Clinical parental/client interview ( On-line or in person)
  • Consultaton with relevant school / workplace staff where applicable and subject to consent ( On-line or in person)
  • Administration of relevant questionnaires pertinent to the referral question/ reason
  • Assessment with individual child/adolescent/adult ( Remote and/or in-person). 
  • Report Writing and Formulation/Feedback  session outling assessment findings, diagnosis/diagnoses where applicable
  • Full psychological report with recommendations
